Ni-On 100 – THE DISPERSION COATING

Ni-On 100 is the name for a chemically dispersed nickel dispersion coating. Dispersion coating means: an evenly distributed incorporation of the smallest, non-metallic particles in the nickel matrix. This type of dispersion coating is still a very new technique. The first attempts with the method probably began in the 1960s. Of the chemical nickel coatings using dry lubricants as the dispersion coatings, the Ni-P-PTFE coatings have had the most significant impact.

With their good self–lubricating characteristics and their strong resistance to water these coatings are particularly suitable for injection moulding equipment, since the easy removal of a mould is essentially enhanced. This is, however, particularly true also of roller surfaces, ejectors, mould cavities, gate valves and their running surfaces, self-tapping screws, fasteners as well as all other moving parts that should be dry lubricated.

Technical data and characteristics:

  1. This refined nickel alloy contains 9 – 10 % phosphorus and 18 – 20 % polytetrafluoroethylene.
  2. Hardness: As a deposit = 300 – 350 HV, when heated to approx. 290 ºC = 400 – 450 HV.
  3. High adhesion: Up to 440 N/mm², depending on the base material.
  4. Uniform distribution of the coating even on textured surfaces. Tolerance ± 2.5 µ, upper limit = 25 µ (in combination with Ni-On 200 = 100 µ)
  5. In injection moulding equipment, mould removal is significantly improved by the minimal resistance to friction during injection.
  6. High wear-resistance: By integrating PTFE, the compound’s properties, low friction coefficient and anti-adhesive effect are transferred to the whole of the coating. Two effects here lead also to a significant reduction in wastage: a) the abraded PTFE particles form a dry lubrication film between the contact surfaces and b) the integrated particles impede wear through adhesion due to the low friction coefficient.
  7. Reduced deposit build-up by its water-resistant properties.
  8. Considerable reduction in static friction.
  9. Protects from corrosion and contamination.
  10. Provides outstanding dry operation characteristics.
  11. Advertising advantages due to the enhancement of product quality.
